Katie Weinger, EdD, RN, is an assistant professor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, an investigator in behavioral and mental health research, and director of the Center for Innovation in Diabetes Education at the Joslin Diabetes Center. She also directs the Joslin Center’s Office of Research Fellows. Her research interests include investigating barriers to diabetes self-management and hypoglycemia-related cognitive impairments.

Dr. Weinger earned a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Boston College, a master’s of science degree in nursing and education from Texas Women’s University, and a doctorate in human development and psychology from Harvard University.

She served on the Work Group to Review National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management Education Programs. She currently serves on the Publications Policy Committee of the American Diabetes Association and the Research Committee of the American Association of Diabetes Educators, for which she is chair of the Research Grant Awards Subcommittee. She also serves on the Technical Expert Panel of the National Diabetes Quality Improvement Alliance.

Dr. Weinger is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau National Honor Society for Nursing, Society of Behavioral Medicine, Eastern Nursing Research Society, Diabetes Educators of Eastern Massachusetts, and Council for the Advancement of Nursing Science.

Frank J. Snoek, PhD, was the associate editor in charge of coordinating this From Research to Practice Section.
