Geralyn R. Spollett, MSN, ANP, CDE, is an adult nurse practitioner and associate director at the Yale Diabetes Center, affiliated with the Yale School of Medicine Faculty Practice, in New Haven, Conn.Go

She earned her bachelor's degree in nursing from Fairfield University in Fairfield, Conn., in 1976 and her master's degree in nursing with distinction from Boston College in Mass., in 1982.

During her 10 years at the Yale School of Nursing, she taught in primary care courses in the Adult and Family Nurse Practitioner Program as well as the diabetes care concentration. Ms. Spollett collaborated with Gail Melkus, EdD, on research focusing on type 2 diabetes in African-American women and has lectured nationally and internationally on diabetes management from a nurse practitioner perspective.

She has written for many of the leading nursing and diabetes-related journals and has > 40 published works. The Complete Nurse's Guide to Diabetes Care, of which she was an associate editor, was published by the American Diabetes Association (ADA) in 2005. She has served as an associate editor of Diabetes Spectrum and is now a member of the journal's editorial board.

Ms. Spollett is an active member of the ADA, currently serving on its national board of directors, and she has also served as a member of the board of directors and chair of the National Certification Board for Diabetes Educators. She is the 2006 recipient of the ADA Outstanding Educator in Diabetes Award.
