Robert M. Anderson, EdD, is an educational psychologist who has been
working in the field of diabetes for more than 25 years. He is a professor in
the Department of Medical Education and a senior research scientist at the
Michigan Diabetes Research and Training Center at the University of Michigan
Medical School in Ann
Arbor.
Dr. Anderson's major interests are developing and evaluating innovative
programs of patient and professional education, the patient empowerment
approach to diabetes care, and culturally appropriate programs of diabetes
care and education. In 1993, he received the American Association of Diabetes
Educators Distinguished Service Award, and he received the American Diabetes
Association Outstanding Educator in Diabetes Award in 2000. He has conducted
National Institutes of Health–funded research for the past 20 years and
has written more than 150 publications related to diabetes.
He is loved by his wife, Susan, and admired by his dog, Shorty.
