The majority of people with diabetes need insulin therapy. Just injecting insulin is not enough, however. Patient-centered team care is vital to success. Individuals need to build their self-management skills beginning with the foundation of pattern management and progressing to advanced insulin management. Sliding-scale, or supplemental, insulin therapy can only be fully effective with pattern management as the underlying strategy.
